While everyone agrees that getting rid of data no longer needed for business, regulatory, or legal hold purposes is smart, getting traction and funding has been a challenge. In 2022, data minimization is finally at the forefront, driven by the exponentially growing risk-and-cost exposure associated with data privacy, cybersecurity/insurance, storage, and so on. While some may view an economic downturn as a setback, it instead should be a driver. The costs of remediating and litigating issues resulting from years of poor information governance usually far outpace the costs of proactively addressing issues, often by magnitudes.”
